Iran Calls for Boosting Banking Cooperation with Spain
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Ambassador to Madrid Mohammad Hassan Fadayeefard called on Spain to further broaden its banking cooperation with Iran.
"The Spanish banks should regulate their banking relation with Iran to enable the European country's firms to develop trade relations with Tehran," Fadayeefard said in a meeting with representatives of over 50 big companies in the Spanish state of Andalusia on Friday.
The Iranian ambassador explained the opportunities and areas of cooperation with Iran, and said that Tehran-Madrid economic cooperation had been reduced during the era of sanctions imposed on Iran, but the grounds for cooperation with Iran in various fields, including oil, gas and petrochemicals have been prepared following the removal of sanctions.
"Iran does not seek to buy goods from the European countries; rather it will prioritize the companies willing to transfer capital and technical know-how to Iran," Fadayeefard said.
In mid-April, Spain’s Barcelona Petrochemical Company held talks with its Iranian counterparts to purchase petrochemical products in Tehran.
According to media reports, the talks took place during the 10th Iran Plast Exhibition.
The Spanish and Iranian sides agreed to do all the groundwork and finalize the purchase deal in the near future.
Last September, Spanish Industry and Energy Minister Jose Manuel Soria also held several meetings in Iran during an official visit with oil ministry officials to discuss the possibilities for Spanish companies to operate in the country.
