Iran’s monthly petrochemical output hits 4.3m tons
Iran produced 4.3 million tons of petrochemical products during the month to September 22.
National Petrochemical Company (NPC) further announced that 57 Iranian petrochemical complexes produced 26.84 million tons of products in the six months from March 21 to September 22, Trend News Agency reported.
Iran's nominal production capacity is to reach 70 million tons per year by March 2018.
According to a report, obtained by Trend, in total 19.718 million tons of petrochemical products, worth $10.302 billion were sold in domestic and foreign markets during the six-month period.
Iran exported 11.176 million tons of petrochemicals valued at $5.576 billion during the six months and about 8.66 million tons of petrochemicals were sold in the domestic market.
A total of 21 petrochemical complexes located in the port city of Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province, produced over 9.877 million tons of products (equal to 69 percent of nominal production capacity) while production in 16 complexes in Asalouyeh, Bushehr Province reached over 11.403 million tons during the period, which was 25 percent less than the production capacity of the complexes.
Iran plans to inaugurate seven petrochemical plants in the year to March 2018 and plans to construct 23 more the following year.
In total, 64 petrochemical projects are expected to become operational by 2021 to double the country's nominal production capacity in the next five years. Iran needs investments to the tune of $20 billion to meet this target and a further $35 billion to increase the figure to 150 million tons per year by 2025.
